Orchid Flowers
Orchid flowers belong to the Orchidaceae family. This is the largest family of flowering plants. The exact number of species within this family is unknown, but estimated to be around 22,000.
In comparison mammals, there are four times as many species of orchid flowers. These encompass somewhere between six to eleven percent of all seed plants. Generally, about eight hundred new orchid species are added each year.
Orchid flowers are referred to as cosmopolitan. This means that their distribution touches nearly every habitat. The majority of these plants are found in the tropics. However they may also be found above the arctic circle and even near Antarctica on Macquarie Island.
